Having an engagement shoot (or a “pre-wedding shoot” if you will), is a good chance for you to work with your photographer, giving you a taste of what to expect on your wedding.
Not only that, it also gives you both some time to get to understand your photographer’s approach and build up a working relationship with them.
Some people are naturally uncomfortable being in front of a camera, so by having an engagement shoot you will be more at ease with having your photograph taken on your wedding day. This will lead to more natural and carefree images – which, I imagine, is what you are after. If you are one of those who is not a fan of the camera, the last thing you want from the most important day of your life are images of yourself looking like a lost dear in headlights! 🙂
Another benefit of having a professional photoshoot of coure, is that you will be able to use the images on your invitation and/or your save the date cards.
An alternative option might be to have a signing book for your guests to complete on the day, containing the images from the shoot.
Finally, it is obviously an opportunity to capture a moment of you both together, before the whirlwind of your wedding day!
If you’re getting married and are interested in hiring me to photograph your wedding along with an engagement shoot too, feel free to get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
