Megan and James’ wedding at Brookfield Barn in Sussex

I was looking forward to Megan and James’ wedding in Sussex for a variety of reasons.

Firstly, I had met the couple some years earlier at Megan’s sister’s wedding, Lucy, so I already knew the couple and knew that capturing their day would be both an honour and a pleasure.

Secondly, their wedding was taking place at Brookfield Barn in Sussex, a venue I had never worked at before. While it is good to work at venues you’re familiar with, I always relish the opportunity to explore new places and the visual opportunities they present.

At Cisswood House in Horsham

My day started like most, capturing the bridal party getting ready at the Cisswood House Hotel near Horsham. There, I documented Megan and her bridesmaid getting ready, as Becca Grey worked on make-up and Sharon Roberts did their hair.

After that, we all headed to Brookfield Barn, where Megan finally put on her wedding dress (by Bride by Aster).

The ceremony took place outside, utilising the venue’s oak gazebo and the picturesque views next to the lake. After the ceremony, the couple mingled with their guests and then took a number photos around the grounds.

After a few group shots and portraits, they all all sat down inside for the wedding breakfast and speeches

Dancing and sparkles

Evening entertainment was provided by the rather splendid OJ’s Soul Band. After an evening of dancing, they then had sparklers, where I managed to capture a number of memorable photos.

Before I headed off, I asked Megan and James if they would mind if I took a few more photos of them outside, utilising some off camera flash lights – any excuse to experiment with off camera lighting! Of course they obliged and I’m glad they did, as the last photo below is easily one of my favourite shots of last year.
