Personal Favourite: Natalie and James’ first dance

For the most part, I always enjoy photographing the first dance. Back when I first started photographing weddings, it was something I felt I always needed to improve at. But over the last few years, with a few tweaks to my method and bit of planning, I now find them a lot of fun to capture.

With a couple of external flash guns scattered around the dance floor on tripods, you can capture some really majestic images such as this one from Natalie and James’ wedding at Rivervale Barn last year.

This image has been one of my favourites for a while now and I use it on quite a few marketing materials (leaflets and the like).

When I first started editing it, I was going to convert it to black and white. As a lovely little moment, it’s usually images such as this that work so much better when given a monochrome treatment.

But there was something about it that made the image stand out so much more in colour. I still can’t quite put my finger on it.
