Personal favourite: Dancing down the aisle

Every now and then, I like to go through my archives and revisit old photos. Particularly when I have a wedding fair coming up.

I find it is healthy to go through the older stuff, decide which images best represent my work and approach, and then maybe get them printed.

So earlier this week, I was sifting through some of my earlier work and decided to take another look at Natalie and Lukes wedding. This shot jumped out at me.

Originally taken back in the summer of 2014 at Laughton Barns in Sussex, a lot has changed since then. I’m using different software to edit my work, I’ve learnt new techniques and my post production style has somewhat changed.

I decided to dig out the raw file and try a completely fresh approach with it. I thought it would be an interesting exercise to edit the image as I had taken it at a wedding last week.

And the difference is pretty staggering. Over the last few years, I’ve gone from liking images with a soft contrasts, to liking images with more defined shadows and highlights. The new version of this photograph very much represents this.

Revisiting the image has reminded me of what fun this wedding was to photograph, along with how much I love this shot.
